9 The Dance of B’olon Yokte’ K’uh, 48x36 oil.
Completed May 20 2012, the moon is new. This day in Long Count is 12.19.19.7.5. Solar maximum is occurring, violent burst of plasma erupt daily threatening to disrupt or destroy Earth’s electronic infrastructure. It is 15 days till the Transit of Venus occurs on the 5th of June. After June 2012, the next pair of transits occur December 11, 2117, and December 8, 2125.
2012 is a unique year for many reasons.
On December 21 2012 according to an inscription on the Maya’s Tortuguero Monument 6, recording the 2012 Bak’tun ending:

Tzuhtz-(a)j-oom u(y)-uxlajuun pik(ta) Chan Ajaw ux(-te’) Uniiw. Uht-oom ? Y-em(al)?? Bolon Yookte’ K’uh ta ?.

“The Thirteenth ‘Bak’tun” will be finished (on) Four Ajaw, the Third of Uniiw (K’ank’in). ? will occur. (It will be) the descent (??) of the Nine Support? God(s) to the ?.”

It is unclear what the full meaning of this inscription means due to damage. The stone has cracked, which has made the end of the passage almost illegible. But it is clear that B’olon Yokte’ god of creation and war, will to prevail this day. Here he dances with a flap staff decorated with glyphs and holding an atlatl as he descends a 9 step stair above the Underworld Xbalba dressed with glyphs and ornaments that hint at death and transformation. The old calendar will die and a new one will begin.
“No sólo hay una vertiente catastrófica, también hay otra que pronostica el despertar de la conciencia y el renacimiento de una nueva humanidad más equitativa”. Mientras, las profecías mayas van más allá de las explicaciones de la ciencia e historia.
On this date the number of days since August 11, BCE 3114 is 1871785 days.
It is 211 days till the Maya Long Count date of 0.0.0.0.0, December 21 2012. Venus is the evening star.
This painting is dedicated to David Kaufman, Sven Gronemeyer, David Freidel, Apab’yan Tew in Guatemala, Carlos and Eddie Panti my guides in Belize and the many other friends who have inspired and given support through this journey.

Depending on which books one reads Ix Chel and Chak Chel are either the same goddess with differing aspects or not. I have chosen to make them one here.
Ix Chel is the (ix-lady) Maya Goddess of the Moon, Water, Weaving and Childbirth. She is often depicted with her companion a rabbit.
Chak Chel, “Great (or Red) Rainbow” is the Goddess who brings about the destruction of the third creation by causing a great flood. By pouring the waters from her jar, she prepares the way for the next age, known in Maya legend as the Fourth Sun.
She is often shown as an old midwife, for experienced elderly women helped younger women to give birth and were traditionally caretakers of children. Chak Chel also helped the Maize God to be reborn, and helped in the birth of his own sons. This painting is dedicated to my sister Julie Joy.
